Picture Frame

I finished building an electronic picture frame several months ago and thought I'd post the details on how it was built.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to use an old notebook computer. I took a Toshiba sub notebook and removed the screen, taping it to the back of the keyboard on the other side. This created a nice thin device that could be inserted into a shadow box for framing.

I also included a WIFI card for wireless picture access and a USB AIW remote.

The menu system is MyHTPC.

Home Theater

.

Several years ago I started a home theater project as part of finishing the basement of our house. I quickly decided to go with a front projector for the WOW factor of a large screen and the overall theater type feel that it provides. Now that it is pretty much complete, I thought I'd post a picture showing the theater seating.

You can also click on the title of this post to view a larger picture.

Excellent sites I've used for home theater research include:

Mame Arcade Project - Continued

This is a quick update on the Mame Arcade cabinet project...

  1. The first coat of paint has been applied to the cabinet.
  2. Speaker holes have been drilled in the lower marquee piece.
  3. Speaker covers have been fit to the drilled marquee piece.
  4. T-Molding has been added to the horizonal marquee pieces.
  5. The marquee retainers from Happ Controls have arrived.
  6. The marquee sign and lexan has been ordered from emkay.net.

Another picture will be posted once the painting process is complete and the marquee is in place.

Geocaching

Thought I'd write a quick note about a GPS based sport we've been doing as a family. For those that haven't heard about this (and many haven't), geocaching is an outdoor sport which allows you to use a handheld GPS to track down a cache that has been placed in a public area. All caches are monitored online through the website. You also maintain a list of caches that you've visited by creating a free account on the site. It's been fun to walk through the woods trying to narrow down exactly where people have placed these! The website is:

Good luck finding a cache!
